The Korea Mint continues to play a pivotal role in the 'digital economy' by promoting new businesses such as mobile ID cards, local digital platform 'chak', and electronic signature authentication services based on the core values of 'payment', 'identity authentication', and 'value storage' based on reliability and falsification prevention technology accumulated by manufacturing and supplying products based on the “real economy” such as currency, passports, and resident registration cards.
The Korea Mint, which is being reborn as a digital platform company, is growing as a trusted platform partner for citizens in the hyperconnected era by actively responding to services that require the cloud.
How do public institutions that provide public services use monitoring? We met and talked in person with the person in charge of the Korea Mint Corporation, which operates the Mint Shopping Mall.
We, Korea Mint, manufacture and supply currency, passports, resident registration cards, etc. Manufacturing facilities are located in Daejeon, Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk, and Buyeo in Chungnam, and we not only manufacture various securities and security products, but also research and develop anti-counterfeiting technology applied to products.
Recently, the Korea Mint is trying to move beyond the real economy into a public institution responsible for the digital economy, and as part of this, it is playing a pivotal role in line with national policies by operating a mobile ID service business and a regional payment platform “chak ()”.
I am a member of the Management Information Team under the Ministry of ICT Planning and Security, and the Management Information Team consists of a total of 8 members. The Management Information Team focuses on the Management Information System (MIS). In addition, the Mint operates an online shopping mall and other external services.
BTS commemorative medals were sold to BTS fans and citizens around the world. In anticipation of a flood of users, users were distributed by selling through various channels including Weavers Shop and Shinhan Bank branches all over the country as well as the Mint Shopping Mall. Because of this, there was no major difficulty in accessing the shopping mall.
There is a public service called “mobile chak (chak).” Chak (chak) is used as a method of paying allowances arising from various policies, and is currently one of the largest public services provided by our corporation. There are about 80 local governments, including Gunsan, where you can pay using chak (chak).
In addition, it also operates a mobile driver's license service, and the average number of users is estimated to be around 1 million to 2 million.
Until now, the types and scale of public services managed by our construction company were relatively small, so it was not enough to formally introduce a monitoring solution. However, in the event of a specific event, a deployed application monitoring solution was temporarily used.
However, as the shopping malls operated by our construction company grew larger and larger, we felt the need to intuitively solve problems and manage performance stably, and we considered introducing a monitoring solution as a result.
Among the public services provided by the Korea Mint, we have converted our online shopping mall and disposable cup guarantee business to the cloud. The disposable cup deposit is a business where an additional deposit of 300 won is paid when purchasing drinks at the store, and you can get 300 won back if you return the disposable cup to the store. Our Korea Mint is making sticker labels to prevent duplication and falsification of disposable cups.
In the process of selling a set of current coins, I was able to quickly find issues such as slow queries.
The current coin set is the most popular commemorative currency of the Korea Mint, and consists of a total of 6 types of coins, ranging from 1 won to 500 won. The number of coins (coins) is planned to be issued each year and is produced on a limited basis. In years when the number of coins issued is low, coins are highly scarce, making them the most popular product among collectors.
As the current coin set went viral, many people other than collectors wanted to buy this product. Therefore, in order to accommodate more visitors, the on-premise shopping mall system was converted to the cloud. We switched to the cloud and conducted performance tests with WhaTap for service stability. Thanks to quick support, we were able to quickly identify, resolve, and improve performance issues while completing the installation and viewing the dashboard screen.
If I had any questions during use, I immediately contacted the professional performance engineer and the person in charge. Questions and answers were answered in real time, so I didn't feel uncomfortable during use.
The main dashboard screen is most often viewed in application monitoring currently in use. Next, I check the transaction shown at the top of the heatmap, and I can intuitively check what problems have occurred depending on the shape of the distribution chart, so I often watch it.
If you're a service developer or operator, it's difficult to get started, and you're probably aware of the need for monitoring.
In the case of public services, it is not known how many users will flow in, so I think a monitoring solution is essential in order to predict and respond to failures. It is also essential for more careful management for the best service quality. This is because it is possible to identify where problems have occurred and where to improve performance. Since Daemin Service believes that consistently providing the best quality and service to users should be a top priority, I think a monitoring solution is essential.
Mint shopping malls operated by our corporation must operate stably 24 hours a day without system load. In order to improve service quality, monitoring is necessary so that objective data on problem improvements can be found. In particular, performance management is necessary through monitoring so that citizens can use public services satisfactorily in an optimized environment.
I would like to say this. Monitoring is essential for public services used by citizens.
Monitoring is essential to improve service and improve quality. Through monitoring, we were able to intuitively check the data, and furthermore, we were able to improve performance.
Public services must provide more stable services to customers. Since the introduction of monitoring, the service has been operated stably without major problems until now. If an event or failure occurs, from analyzing the cause to stabilizing services, there will be no major difficulties in the future if it is continuously managed with a monitoring solution.
