In 2024, the Watap Monitoring Academy held a session on the topic of application, browser, and server monitoring. Each session focused on how the key features of each product can be used in an actual operating environment, and was designed to be of practical help to everyone from beginners to experienced monitoring users.

Reasons for planning an academy

In fact, when I met many customers, they often only looked at the basic dashboard because they didn't know how to use Watab even after introducing it. though Monitoring isn't just about looking at numbers or notifications; it's a process of detecting problems, responding quickly, and finding the root causeThis is important.

Watap monitoring provides a wide range of functions and menus to suit various purposes and situations (see image below). There were also the following challenges that customers actually experienced in the field.

1. Failure analysis that was difficult to know where to start

There was a customer who took action after a service failure occurred, but was struggling because they didn't know what menu to use to start analyzing the problem. I knew I needed to look at the data, but I didn't know which to check the dashboard, heatmap, or statistics first, so I ended up checking each menu one by one, which took a lot of time.

2. Important issues embedded in allowed errors

Some customers confirmed the problem, but there were also cases where it took a long time to identify a really important issue because too many transaction errors were displayed. As acceptable errors or unnecessary transactions continue to pile up, important errors requiring actual action are buried, and in some cases, overall statistics are affected.

3. If you missed a browser-initiated failure

There were also cases where a service problem occurred due to a failure at the front end of WAS, but it was difficult to check directly on the APM screen. In this case, browser monitoring was able to identify clues to the problem, but customers were only looking at the application dashboard, which delayed recognition of the failure.

Monitoring isn't just about collecting data. The essence of monitoring is to monitor services instead of 24 hours a day, provide immediate notifications when problems occur, and help analyze the cause quickly.

It is WTAP's role to monitor and collect data 24 hours a day here. However, the process of setting alerts, analyzing issues, and gaining insights is up to the customer.

Therefore, the WTAP Monitoring Academy was designed to reduce the difficulties caused by improper use of monitoring and to help customers detect and respond to problems more effectively.

Future plans

In 2025, we plan to reorganize application, browser, and server monitoring sessions on a different topic than last year. Focusing on how each product can be used in an actual operating environment, we are preparing more practical and field-oriented content.
